Learn to Listen

I was at a socialist talk in NYC a couple weeks ago. It's scary to think of what we can do to fight and actually revise the politics of the country and our world.
Basically the only advice I really found comfort in was the knowledge that we need to know each other. Everyone is fighting for what matters to them: for birth control, for affordable care -- against sexism, racism, transphobia, xenophobia, etc.
While these fights are worthy, I feel that everyone is stuck in this rut of fighting only for their own survival, forgetting that others have it worse, or forgetting that there is strength in numbers.
We may not have as much wealth as the bigots and fascists running the world right now, but we do have the numbers, the bodies.

But I'm afraid that we'll finally get to the top -- finally shoot down the idiots in politics -- and then we won't be able to really make a difference. I worry everyone gets apathetic after their own problems are solved.

Learn to listen. If we don't have each other, we have nothing.
